Display Technology Research and Development Center Southeast University (Display Center SEU) is one of the key research bases in Southeast University. It is certified as the Information Display Engineering and Technology Research Center of Jiangsu Province. It is the Display Science and Technology Innovation Base to Introduce Talents of Discipline to Universities supported by Chinese Ministry of Education and State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs (Project 111). It also includes an international cooperation center, Dong Fei R&D Center, which is a cooperation institute between Southeast University and Philips Lighting B.V.
Display Center SEU covers a total area of about 5000 square meters including about 2000 square meters clean room. The total number of faculty and staff is 40, including 12 professors and 8 associate professors. Besides, it has 20 foreign experts and 12 domestic experts as visiting professors. It also has about 100 Master students and about 30 PhD students. There are 10 labs in the center including the visual perception lab, the measurement lab, the circuit lab, the micro fluid lab, the nano optoelectronic material lab, etc.. The total value of the equipment is about RMB 130 million, including 1 scanning electron microscopy, various measurement devices and a set of display manufacture equipment cost RMB100 million donated by LG.Philips Displays.
Now, Display Center SEU mainly focuses on the research of advanced display technology (including various display devices such as OLED，QLED, LCD, LED, PDP, FED, 3D display, LCoS, e-book and micro-display), visual perception study, display measurement, display standard, display electronics, new display materials and manufacture technology. Besides, it is also working on microwave optics, solar energy devices, human machine interface, etc.. In recent years, it has undertaken more than 35 national research projects, including the National Science and Technology Research Projects, the National High Technology Research and Development Program (Program 863), the National Key Basic Research and Development Program (Program 973) and the National Natural Science Foundation Projects. More than 300 journal papers have been published and more than 160 patents have been authorized. Shadow Mask PDP won the first prize of Scientific and Technological Progress Award Jiangsu Province.
International cooperation & exchanges play an important role in the research and development of Display Center SEU. The center takes an active part in setting up international cooperative programs with other universities and corporations in the world. Up to now, it has signed contracts for cooperation with a lot of Philips companies such as Philips PPD, Philips CE/CL, Philips Research, Philips Lighting, etc. It has also signed agreements with a lot of universities such as University of Cambridge, University of Rennes 1, Nanyang Technological University, etc. 15 teachers and 16 students have been sent abroad for training or internship. 20 students have been recommended to other universities to study abroad for PhD. During 20-year international cooperation of Dong Fei R&D Center, two Philips experts have won the national Friendship Awards.
